How to Effectively Persuade An Audience
Paul Ariola Presents Persuasive Presentation Tips During Chamber Education Series

"Telling stories to motivate others into action" that's the key to a great presentation, according to Hampton Roads Chamber Education Series presenter Paul Ariola. During this month's Chamber Education Series, sponsored by Southern Bank and Farm Fresh. Ariola, the Executive Vice President of Dale Carnegie of Training Eastern Virginia, Wade Powell and Associates, provided participants with an interactive seminar on the power of storytelling to persuade an audience. The techniques can be applied in various exchanges, from salespeople persuading customers to buy to safety directors persuading workers to take action.

During this seminar, participants practiced memory-building skills and learned about the four pieces of a persuasive presentation: the opening incident, evidence, action, and benefit. Attendees divided up into pairs to practice the skills they learned in real time, something they found very beneficial. "Paul did an excellent job engaging the participants," said Darian Fisher of Chamber Education Series Presenting Sponsor Southern Bank, " we learned techniques to overcome our [public speaking] fears." Before the seminar ended participants were offered the opportunity to review their performances and the performances of their peers. The practical experience of a few off-the-cuff presentations to other business people made the seminar impactful and "really helped me re-evaluate my presentations" said Nicole Wilkens of Hilton Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
The Hampton Roads Chamber strives to provide our members with educational and leadership driven events that inspire business leaders. The Chamber Education Series will continue with LinkedIn for B-to-B Marketing 2017 with Susan Long-Molnar at the Hampton Roads Chamber on Wednesday, May 10th.
