PORTSMOUTH, VA – On Sunday, September 13, the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum will bring in the official artist for the 2015 Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) Road World Championships, Greig Leach, to sign books and lecture about his cycling art watercolors and sketches. Admission for the event is free and will take place from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will include light snacks and beverages. His book, “Book de Tour” is available in the Hall of Fame’s Final Score Gift Shop.

Leach currently has an exhibition entitled, “Breakaway: The Cycling Art of Greig Leach” in the Riddle Sports Gallery at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame & Museum. The exhibition features over 100 works featuring images from bike races including the Tour Down Under, Giro d’Italia, Tour de France, and US Pro Challenge. Working with watercolor and ink, Greig paints quickly while watching the race unfold, creating images that show all the energy of a particular moment. The exhibition will be on display until September 27.

About the Artist:

The official artist for the 2015 UCI Road World Championships, Greig Leach is an avid cyclist who pursued his passion in the 1970s, Leach abandoned his dreams of being a professional racer and focused his talents on art. “I am an avid fan of cycling and a former amateur racer,” Leach explains. “The cycling has become intriguing to me – trying to capture the incredible speed, these daredevil descents down these alpine mountains, to take a static image that shows all of the energy and that juxtaposition of motion and stillness.”
