Winter Volunteer Open House, January 22, 4 – 6 p.m.

To learn about all of the interesting things volunteers do at the Aquarium, join us in the Bay & Ocean Pavilion on Thursday, January 22 , from 4 – 6 p.m. for the next volunteer open house. Department representatives will be available to answer your questions and you just may meet an animal or two! Youth, adult and internship positions are available. Keep in mind that volunteering has its rewards. When you give 100 hours of volunteer service, a free Aquarium membership is given! Call 757 385-0274 for more information.

The Adventures of MR. POTATO HEAD

MR. POTATO HEAD needs you to join his tater team for some fun, and educational expeditions at the Virginia Aquarium. The Adventures of MR. POTATO HEAD is an exciting hands-on traveling exhibit created by the Betty Brinn Children's Museum in collaboration with PLAYSKOOL®. It will be featured in the Virginia Aquarium’s Changing Exhibit gallery through May 10, 2015. The exhibit is free with paid Aquarium admission.

Discovery Days, ages 4 - 6

Programs include age appropriate discussions, activities and crafts. All programs are from 2-3:15 p.m. in the Marsh Pavilion Discovery Room unless otherwise noted. Fee: $7 members, $10 non-members

Little One's Science Lab, January 8: Put on your lab aprons and join us for some hands-on science experiments.  Learn how to form a hypothesis, conduct an experiment, and record results.

Defend and Protect, January 22: Some animals hide, some stink, and some look scary.  Come and explore the many ways animals protect themselves from being a meal.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
Join Virginia Aquarium educators for one-hour nature play sessions that will build your confidence to take family nature outings on your own and foster a love of nature in your children. The sessions are included with admission. Pre-registration is strongly recommended: call 385-0332 or email ARabon@VirginiaAquarium.com. Walk-ups on the day of the program will be accommodated if space is still available.All participants should check-in at Marsh Pavilion Lobby at 9:45 a.m.

Wednesday, January 21 or Saturday, January 24, 10-11 a.m.: There’s a lot happening in the woods in winter. Dress for the weather of the day and wear comfortable shoes for a short hike in the woods to look for animal tracks and other signs of wildlife.

Dragon Day, January 17:Whether your favorite dragon is a Komodo or Puff the Magic Dragon, we will be celebrating them all on Dragon Day!  Meet our Komodo dragon keepers and try your hand at some famous dragon trivia.
