Norfolk's Waterside District

Norfolk’s Waterside District project has begun with the demolition of the annex that was started in May. Slated to open in Spring of 2017, the Waterside District project is a $30 million public-private partnership between Norfolk and Cordish Companies.   Cordish, the developer, states it will be covering the entire cost for the $30 million project.

Inside, the Waterside District will feature a 30,000 square foot area known as “The Marketplace” which will have as many as nine businesses and restaurants. It will also have a roof top deck that is expected to be available for use around 10 months out of the year. Cordish notes the project will become a public gathering place as well as a tourist destination.

Mayor Paul Fraim notes that in congruence with the current development of The Main, a conference center and hotel, Waterside as a whole will bring over 800 permanent jobs and millions in new tax revenue.
