The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance, collectively representing 2,535 businesses, are dedicated to serving members and communities by advocating and supporting the business interests of the region. The 2011 Legislative Priorities were developed by the legislative committees and approved by Board of Directors of both Chambers in an effort to focus policy makers' attention on the business challenges facing our region and to offer recommendations and solutions to these critical issues.
Each year, the Chambers research and identify business issues prior to the start of the General Assembly session that addresses our key policy goals for the year. We regularly work with elected officials on issues and programs that move our region forward. The 2011 State Legislative Proposals includes a continuing focus on the following key areas: transportation, tourism, education, passenger & high speed rail service, small business development, taxation, workforce issues, and growth & development.
With the help of key stakeholders, we are able to position the Chambers as effective leaders and resources in finding solutions to strengthen the business climate and create economic prosperity throughout the region. The next General Assembly convenes January 11, 2011.
