Chamber Honors Military from Local Commands
August 17, 2011
On August 11, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce hosted a Military Recognition Reception from 3-5pm at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. This reception, held to honor the hardworking men and women of the military, recognized nearly 100 military personnel from local commands. The service members were joined at the reception by their families, military leadership, elected officials, and businessmen and women from the region.
Guest speakers were Chief Warrant Officer Mario Vittone, Marine service specialist with the U.S. Coast Guard in Hampton Roads, and the Honorable Suzy Kelly, CEO of Jo-Kell Inc. and member of Chesapeake City Council.
Both speakers had a universal message of admiration and respect. Kelly told the audience, “I really appreciate that you are being honored, thank you for all you do for our country.” Vittone’s speech was both uplifting and inspiring. He told the honorees that their service and dedication were recognized and valued. “I’ve never been more proud and hopeful in my life than looking out at you,” he said.
The Chamber holds Military Recognition Receptions twice a year because they are such an important part of our region. The Chamber has been recognizing the accomplishments of the military at this reception for more than 15 years.
