Study Shows that Norfolk Ranks Second on Careers After Military
November 10, 2011

According to a study done by Sperling’s BestPlaces, Norfolk is the second best place for U.S. military retirees to find a job after leaving the service. The United Services Automobile Association (USAA) insurance agency and Military.com commissioned Sperling’s Best Places to develop the list.

The study gave the Norfolk area high scores in all of the military-specific employment categories. June Walbert, a certified financial planner for USAA in San Antonio, Texas told The Virginian-Pilot, “Your city really rose to the top of the list because of the types of jobs you have – jobs in the area of defense, engineering and aviation.”

The study also noted the relatively milder climate and affordable housing options that make Norfolk an attractive place to live and work.

Norfolk was topped by Oklahoma City.  Richmond came in No. 3.
