Mayor Alan Krasnoff Presents Chesapeake State of the City Address

Mayor Alan KrasnoffOn March 31, a crowd of 575 attended the Chamber’s Chesapeake State of the City at the Chesapeake Conference Center.  Prior to the Mayor’s address, guests heard from Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA-4th) and Chesapeake City Manager William Harrell.

During his address, Mayor Alan Krasnoff said that despite a less than stellar economy, Chesapeake is “open for business.”  He focused on the numerous businesses, such as Canon and Dollar Susan Archer, Chesapeake Chair, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce; and Alan Krasnoff, Chesapeake MayorTree, which call Chesapeake their home.  Krasnoff said that more than 600 jobs were created in the Chesapeake last year, saying “We are a city that makes things happen.”

The Mayor announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be relocating its regional headquarters from Norfolk to the Oakbooke Business and Technology Center in Chesapeake.  The FBI will build a 131,000 square foot building and add more than 100 jobs.

Andolyn Medina, Miss Virginia's Outstanding Preteen 2008, sang the national anthemKrasnoff spoke about the speedy progress of the new South Norfolk Jordan Bridge.  Linda Figg, with Figg Bridge Developers, was recognized.  Seward Marine and McLean Contracting will start demolition in mid-April and the new modern high level bridge is set to open in the winter of next year.
