Congressman Scott Rigell, a 2nd District Republican, was the guest speaker during the Chamber’s Virginia Beach division board meeting on April 4. Nearly 40 business leaders listened to Congressman Rigell share his perspectives on coastal energy, the country’s budget, healthcare, transportation and other topics of interest to the business community. Congressman Rigell was clear about his objectives. “I’m deliberate about changing the tone in Washington,” Rigell said. “We need to make good decisions based on fact.”
One of Representative Rigell’s key topics was transportation. “We need to look at transportation issues from a long term perspective,” Rigell said. “I see transportation as an investment rather than an expense.” Congressman Rigell is committed to funding transportation initiatives in Hampton Roads.
Following Congressman Rigell’s address, attendees participated in a question and answer session. He responded to concerns regarding Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC), which he opposes in its current state; national fiscal issues; and the Mid-Atlantic Energy and Jobs Act which he sponsors.
Despite what he calls Congress’s “short window to make bold decisions,” Congressman Rigell is dedicated to working for the betterment of the nation and his constituents in Hampton Roads. He encourages leadership from both parties to work together to this end.
