HAMPTON ROADS, VA – Today, the Norfolk Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce announced its endorsements for Norfolk City Council. As the area’s premier business organization, the Hampton Roads Chamber is an advocate in local and state government. The Chamber, in representing the business viewpoints and interests to the public sector, explores the political field to identify campaigns that support pro-business legislation, driving the economic strength of the membership base. Additionally, the organization works closely with elected officials to create economic prosperity and enhance the quality of life for our community.
In the upcoming May 6 election, 13 candidates are running for four contested seats on the Norfolk City Council. The Chamber’s Norfolk Board of Directors developed a questionnaire to understand each candidate’s position on policies important to the business community. The Board considered voting records, answers to the questionnaire and responses given during interviews to evaluate the candidates. Click here to review the responses.
In addition, on April 15 and 17, nearly 300 residents attended two Norfolk political forums hosted by the Hampton Roads Chamber, NAACP and League of Women Voters.
The Norfolk Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce endorses the following candidates for election to Norfolk City Council:
Mayor: Paul Fraim
Ward 3: Rodney Jordan
Ward 5: Tommy Smigiel
Races in Wards 1 and 2 were uncontested. The Norfolk Board voted to abstain from endorsement of a candidate in Ward 4.
