Chamberís Membership Event Aims to Bring in More than 200 New Members

Jimmy with YCC motivates attendees at the Captains meetingThe excitement is building.  The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for a membership event on September 18, 19 and 20.  The membership drive will involve more than 300 Chamber members volunteering their time and working against the clock and against each other to sign up new chamber members and create a greater awareness of the important role the chamber plays in the business community.

The Hampton Roads Chamber has partnered with national organization Your Chamber Connection (YCC) to take the membership event to the next level.  YCC specializes in high energy membership campaigns that allow volunteers to think outside of the box while building the membership base.

Jack Hornbeck, Chamber President and CEO, said, “This is the second year our Chamber has partnered with YCC, and we’re anticipating more than 200 businesses will become new members of the Chamber.”

To kick off the event, a Captains meeting was held on August 27.  The following volunteers are serving as Chairs for the membership drive:

Bill Bell, Newport News Shipbuilding, A Division of Huntington Ingalls Industries

Susan Blackman, Willcox & Savage

Robert M. Boyd, BB&T

E. Neal Crawford, Monarch Bank

Michael J. Fowler, Merrill Lynch

Jodi Gidley, Virginia Natural Gas

Michael Kerner, Bon Secours Health System

Dave Mele, The Virginian Pilot

Thomas T. Winborne, Clark Nexsen, Architecture & Engineering

Joseph R. Witt, Old Point Nation Bank

The last membership drive, held in January 2010, brought in 166 new Chamber members.
