HB1483 grants certain school divisions a waiver from the regular Post Labor Day Holiday opening.

The Chamber Opposed HB1483 and all bills that authorized school divisions to open prior to the traditional Labor Day holiday. After a significant lobbying effort the bill passed on the floor of the Senate (22 Y- 18 N).

We would like to thank the following Senators who voted in Opposition to HB1483:

Senator McWaters

Senator Y. Miller

Senator Northam

Senator Norment

Senator Quayle

Senator Wagner

Those who voted in favor of opening certain school districts prior to the traditional Labor Day holiday include:

Senator Blevins

Senator Locke

Senator Lucas

Senator J. Miller

These Senators voted against the interest of the business community for a measure that potentially harms our region’s hospitality industry.
