Chamber's "Mission Possible" Brings in 166 New Members

The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce just completed a membership event like no other.  From January 25-27, the Chamber held its “Mission Possible” event, bringing together more than 100 Chamber members who volunteered their time to work against the clock and against each other to sign up new chamber members and create a greater awareness of the important role the chamber plays in the business community.  The three-day effort brought in 166 new Chamber members and generated more than $70,000!  View list of new members.

Sylvia Haines, Senior Vice President of Organizational Development for the Chamber, said, “The Chamber thanks all of the dedicated and hard working volunteers who called on their contacts and ‘sold’ the Chamber’s benefits.  Bringing in this many new members in such a short amount of time hasn’t happened in the Chamber’s 210 year history.  We are thrilled with the outcome and know that adding these new members will help strengthen our Chamber.”

The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce partnered with national organization Your Chamber Connection (YCC) to conduct this high energy, out of the box membership event.  Motivated by YCC’s Jimmy Cusano, teams volunteered in shifts at the Chamber’s office on January 25 and 26.  The event wrapped up at 3:27pm on January 27 and a final celebration party for the volunteers took place that evening at the Willcox & Savage office in the Wells Fargo building in downtown Norfolk.

The blue team, chaired by Linwood Branch (Days Inn at the Beach), brought in the most money and new members. Branch also received the “Godfather” award for his hard work and commitment.  One of the blue teams, led by Captain Kim Schuler (SunTrust Bank) brought in 20 new members, the most of any team!  Schuler’s team also received the “Most Competitive Team” award.  The “Big Dawg” awards, for those bringing in five or more new members, were given to Sherry Dewar (TowneBank), Kim Schuler, and Shannon Pride (TowneBank).  Dewar also took home the “Most Enthusiastic Individual” award.  Captain Paul Going’s (TowneBank) red team received the “Most Enthusiastic Team” award.
