During the Virginia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (VACCE) annual meeting on June 25, Sylvia Haines, Senior Vice President of Organizational Development, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, was inducted as the 2010-2011 VACCE President. Karen Henderson, President & CEO, Fauquier County Chamber, served as the 2009-2010 President and passed the gavel to Haines. During her remarks, Haines said, “This is one of the biggest honors of my professional career.” She has worked at the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce for 23 years and served on the VACCE Board of Directors for five years.
More than 45 Chamber staff members from throughout Virginia gathered on June 24 and 25 at The Airlie Center in Warrenton for the conference. Tempy Barbru, Executive Director, The Battersea Foundation, was the keynote speaker on June 24. Barbru discussed leadership and the group completed a team building project that invoked creativity. Attending his last VACCE event before his June retirement, Hugh Keogh, President & CEO, Virginia Chamber, spoke to the group and expressed his appreciation to the association and the statewide Chambers. Teresa Beale, Executive Director of the Franklin-Southampton Area Chamber of Commerce, was named as the Chamber Executive of the Year. Bob Hershberger, CCE, Executive Vice President, Greater Williamsburg Chamber & Tourism Alliance, was awarded the VACCE Past Presidents Lifetime Achievement Award. Hershberger, a VACCE Past President, retired at the end of June after 29 years of Chamber work, to coordinate the Williamsburg Chamber’s “Leadership Historic Triangle” program.
The 2011 VACCE Annual Meeting will take place June 23-24 in Norfolk.
