Congress Approves Transportation Reauthorization Bill

The U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate voted last Friday afternoon to approve the conference report to H.R. 4348, a legislative package which includes the surface transportation reauthorization bill.  The bill passed the House by a wide margin of 373 – 52 and was subsequently approved by the Senate by a 74-19 vote.  The legislation was sent to the President for his signature.

The legislation will fund federal-aid highway, transit, safety and related transportation programs at current levels through the end of September 30, 2014. The highway portion of the bill authorizes spending of about $120 billion.
