Chamber Honors Military Personnel at Awards Luncheon

The Chamber hosted its 20th Annual Virginia Beach Armed Forces Awards Luncheon on July 18 at the Brashear Conference Center, JEB Little Creek-Fort Story in Virginia Beach. Nearly 300 members of the business community attended the event, which recognized nearly 100 outstanding military personnel stationed at commands in Virginia Beach, including Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story (JEBLCFS), Naval Air Station Oceana, and Camp Pendleton.  During the program, Lieutenant Colonel James Efaw, Virginia Beach Councilman Bob Dyer, and Virginia Beach Division Chair Cathie France provided remarks.

Lieutenant Colonel Efaw expressed his pride in the honorees and explained that he admired their achievements and ability to overcome obstacles. “You are the best of the best,” he said.  “Your ability to work together sets you apart.”

Councilman Bob Dyer was honored to be a part of the luncheon and thanked the honorees for their service.  “I admire your courage and we are very thankful for all you do,” remarked Dyer.

Cathie France gave a heartfelt speech, noting that, “I am very proud of our men and women in uniform and am grateful for the sacrifices they make daily.”

The Chamber hosts this awards luncheon annually because military personnel are such an important part of our region. This is one of many events hosted by the Chamber to show local support for men and women of the armed forces stationed in the area.

In addition to being recognized for their outstanding accomplishments, service members were also entered into a drawing for several prizes, including an iPad donated by USA Discounters.

Many thanks to sponsors: USA Discounters (Presenting); Max Media (Media); GEICO (Challenge Coin Sponsor & Gold Military Program Partner); Bon Secours Hampton Roads, ECPI University, Pioneer Services (Silver Military Program Partners); Bank of America, Lockheed Martin, Regent University, Saint Leo University, Troy University (Bronze Military Program Partners); Hampton Roads Military & Federal Facilities Alliance (Special Military Program Partner).
