On May 30, LEAD Hampton Roads (LHR) hosted “Bravo!,” its 25th annual meeting and gala celebration at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.  More than 500 business and community leaders attended the reception and dinner honoring four visionary leaders and celebrate the programs 25th anniversary. 

Governor Bob McDonnell accepts 2013 First Citizen of Hampton Roads AwardGovernor Bob McDonnell accepted the 2013 First Citizen of Hampton Roads Award.  This honor highlights the importance of thinking and acting with an emphasis on collaboration across traditional boundaries.  The Governor’s pledge to secure a long-term, sustainable source of funding for transportation was fulfilled with the passage of HB 2313. 

The 2013 Regional Statesman award was presented to Senator Frank Wagner who was a lead negotiator in the Virginia Senate on the transportation bill.  Senator Wagner worked to forge a path for support for a compromise bill.

Patricia Rawls received the Julian Hirst Alumni Leadership Award, which recognizes a LHR graduate who exemplifies excellence in community, civic and professional leadership. 

Nancy Creech was presented with the Visionary Leader Award.  Twenty-five years ago, as Chair of the Hampton Roads Chamber, she helped form LEAD Hampton Roads.  She has served on over 50 boards and commissions and is the force behind the success of the Neptune Festival.

LHR Class of 2013As part of the evening, 50 members of the community graduated from LHR’s nine-month leadership program, joining more than 1,300 other graduates.  Jeff Ainslie, 2013 LHR Chair, introduced the Class of 2013 to the audience. 

LEAD Hampton Roads is a program of the Hampton Roads Chamber.  Created in 1989 to identify, connect and support committed regional leaders, it is the largest and oldest leadership organization in the greater Hampton Roads region.
