Coworking space is the first Hampton Roads location and the fourth for the Richmond-based company.

NORFOLK, Va. (June 10, 2019) – Norfolk Mayor Kenneth C. Alexander and members of the business community recently joined the staff and leadership team of Gather, a Richmond-born coworking space, to commemorate the opening of Gather Downtown Norfolk with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Gather Downtown Norfolk is the first location in Hampton Roads and the fourth for the company. The second Hampton Roads space, Gather Newport News @ Tech Center, is on track to open in September.

Covering more than 30,000 sq. feet located on the 15th and 16th floors of 500 East Main St. Norfolk, Gather Downtown Norfolk offers beautiful waterfront views, ample parking and walkability to downtown restaurants and attractions. The newest coworking space is home to more than 150 private offices, larger suites for enterprise-level clients, open area workspaces, event space, and a range of conference rooms and meeting spaces.

“We’re really excited about the variety of businesses that have already moved into Gather Norfolk and can’t wait to witness our members become part of the Gather community,” says James Crenshaw, managing partner with Gather. “Our modern and stylish design, the exceptional location and amenities we provide for our members like locally sourced coffee and tea as well as our social events, including the Wednesday Cookie Hour, has helped to foster interest in Gather Downtown Norfolk.”

Gather floor plans are strategically designed with “collision points” to encourage interactions between members. Norfolk-based Tymoff + Moss Architects is leading the design, while Campfire & Co. is serving as interior designer, as the Richmond-based company has on Gather’s Central Virginia spaces.

“Not only are we offering a new workspace for aspiring and existing business professionals in Hampton Roads, we now offer a statewide community of Gather spaces. Since Gather members have access to each location, individuals and companies can now communicate, collaborate, and inspire each other to get work done both in Hampton Road and in Richmond,” says Polly White, an owner of Gather. “We are looking forward to opening the Newport News location in September to better serve business and the nonprofit community on the Peninsula.”

Gather has over 500 members in Central Virginia that cover a wide span of industries, with sizes ranging from individual freelancers to small businesses and larger, international enterprises that chose Gather for their Richmond outpost. Savannah Bolin, native of Newport News and current resident of Norfolk, is the Regional Director of Gather Hampton Roads. Gather is committed to continued growth in Hampton Roads.

  • What is the significance of coworking? Coworking spaces like Gather are booming – and will not be going anywhere soon. According to a forecast from the Global Coworking Unconference Conference, there were an estimated 638,000 people around the world working in coworking spaces in 2018.

  • Today’s professional world is all about access, and with the option to “switch up your scenery,” people are now able to work from different locations depending on where they happen to be that day. Coworking spaces offer comfortable seating, meeting rooms, and recreational activities, all of which spark creativity and keep energy and productivity flowing. And they are the very concept of a collaborative workspace, where you are able to interact, work, and communicate with fellow professionals.

  • What is Gather? Gather appeals to self-employed individuals who might otherwise work from home, as well as companies and nonprofits of all sizes. Members range from those looking for a single workspace to those requiring a number of offices or a larger private suite. Gather is also attractive to those who are not yet ready for a long-term lease commitment, and out-of-town firms that need a local presence. Gather provides inspiring work environments, thoughtfully designed common areas, and private workspaces ranging from one-person offices to suites for larger teams. All Gather locations include a full kitchen, free coffee provided by a local roastery, private meeting rooms and phone booths, and social events.
