Virginia Aquarium Bids Fond Farewell to Hermes

Virginia Aquarium Bids Fond Farewell to Hermes
Hermes, the beloved loggerhead sea turtle named after the Greek god of travel, returned to the sea last Friday. His release is unique because he is sporting a high tech satellite transmitter and his movements can be followed online.

After being stranded near the Lynnhaven Inlet last November, Hermes was picked up by members of the Virginia Aquarium Stranding Response Team. He was then taken to the Marine Animal Care Center for evaluation and rehabilitation. As the revived sea turtle was released by boat, he was equipped with a special solar powered transmitter and a small acoustic tag as part of the Virginia Aquarium and U.S. Navy Sea Turtle Research Project.
