On June 15th, Jim Spore, Executive Director of Reinvent Hampton Roads, a non-profit established in 2016, provided an in-depth presentations regarding the challenges the region has faced in economic development and business/jobs creation. Mr. Spore’s presentation (click here) noted that the region in comparison to 20 similar regions since 2008 in the nation is last in job and population growth.
Mr. Spore noted that with a new state focus and legislation adopted by the General Assembly that all localities will renew efforts to creating jobs and industries. He noted that the proposed Mega Site development (Williams Farm) is a perfect long-range project that the region should pursue. The Chesapeake Division has supported and promoted such project as vital to Chesapeake and the region’s economic future.
Rhonda Bridgeman, 2016 Chair of the Chesapeake Division urged all participants to engage in efforts to diversify our economy and to recruit new members and businesses to the Chamber’s membership.
