Governor McDonnell Announces Localities Across Virginia to Receive Nearly $155 Million for Transportation Projects
Governor Bob McDonnell announced that cities and towns throughout Virginia will receive nearly $155 million in state matching funds, which advances nearly $560 million in transportation projects to improve roads, bridges, sidewalks, trails and traffic lights in their localities. The Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB) approved the funding through the state's Revenue Sharing Program.
"Small towns to large urban areas are able to leverage state dollars to make critical transportation improvements in their communities, such as rebuilding roads and bridges, widening roads, installing new traffic signals and repaving roads," said Governor McDonnell. "The Revenue Sharing program allows localities and the state to work together to invest transportation dollars where they are needed most."
CTB Chair and Transportation Secretary Sean T. Connaughton added, "The Revenue Sharing Program is a critical funding source for localities to move ahead on their transportation priorities. The state's contribution advances more than a half billion of transportation projects that will improve safety, ease congestion and make transportation better statewide."
Funding accelerates construction and maintenance projects that will help meet performance targets set by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT). These targets are set to improve road and bridge conditions."
Below is a partial list of projects that will advance under the Revenue Sharing Program:
