On February 25, the Urban Land Institute presented recommendations for developing approximately 445 acres of prime waterfront property owned by the city of Suffolk and Tidewater Community College. Approximately 80 people gathered at the Hilton Garden Inn in Suffolk to hear the Urban Land Institute’s presentation.
The Chamber’s Suffolk Division Board Member John Peterson III, Terry-Peterson Companies is the local Urban Land Institute chairman. Peterson led this effort at the local level in conjunction with the Tidewater Community College Real Estate Foundation and the Suffolk Economic Development Authority. The Urban Land Institute conducted a weeklong study and interviewed many Chamber members including Bob Aston, Towne Bank; Bob Williams, Tri-City Developers; Dave France, Kimley-Horn and Associates; Tuck Bowie, Terry-Peterson Companies; Deborah Stearns, Harvey Lindsay Commercial Real Estate; and Dean McClain, Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
The report is being finalized and will be available soon on the City of Suffolk's Economic Development website.
