Norfolk, VA: McPhillips, Roberts & Deans, PLC, is a CPA firm that takes pride in going "Beyond Numbers". That's why on Saturday, March 14th the firm celebrated National Pi Day, a day celebrating the mathematical symbol for pi (π) or 3.14. This year, Pi Day was a once-in-a-century event when the date and time represented the first 10 digits of the mathematical constant. For MRD employees, it was the perfect excuse to have a little fun during their busy season.
The firm kept the "pie" in Pi Day with help from Carolina Cupcakery owner Dawn Eskins who brought specially created pies for the event. Team MRD also hosted a pie-throwing fundraiser selling raffle tickets for employees to win a chance at smashing a pie into the face of their fearless leaders. The firm’s leadership team volunteered to receive a pie in the face to raise funds for PAWS of Hertford County. The fundraiser was in honor of Teresa Brown, a wife of one of the firm’s former partners who tragically passed away last month. Teresa was a huge supporter of PAWS of Hertford County.
MRD's chief executive officer, Ed Amorosso; tax practice leader, Kevin Riggins; assurance practice leader, Marty Ridout; retirement planning services practice leader, Ellyn Bess and chief operating officer, Jesse Morton all volunteered to receive a pie in the face. (see picture attached)
The firm’s goal was to raise a minimum of $750, however, the chance for the employees to throw a pie proved to be more fruitful than originally anticipated. The firm raised $3,140 for PAWS of Hertford County! Team MRD again showed how they put the "FUN" in their fundraising!
