(VIRGINIA BEACH, VA) – Last month, Caryl Thompson joined the City of Virginia Beach Department of Museums as the marketing and public relations director. As such she will serve both the Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and the History Museums.
Thompson has over 20 years of experience as a City of Virginia Beach employee with the Department of Parks and Recreation. Her career began as an aquatic recreation specialist and Thompson quickly rose to administrative positions within the department. In her last position as a media and communications coordinator, Thompson provided leadership and strategic direction on marketing campaigns integrating media releases, advertising, social media, and collaterals. She also worked closely with staff on recreation program development. Additionally, Thompson served on various Parks and Recreation Teams and City of Virginia Beach Teams and earned awards from both.
Department of Museums Deputy Director Cynthia Spanoulis said, “We are delighted to have Caryl join our department. I am confident that she will be a superb liaison for all of our divisions as she strategically develops marketing and public relations plans, and the implementation of those plans.”
Thompson, an Old Dominion University graduate, earned her master’s degree in human resource development from The George Washington University.
