Nearly 150 business leaders attended the Chamber’s “Brunch & Budget with Senator Mark Warner” on May 16 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. Senator Warner spoke about reducing the growing $14 trillion national debt and reducing waste through reforms in government programs and spending.
Warner said, “Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen said that the single biggest threat to our country is not terrorism, but it is the threat that is posed by our nation’s balance sheet and our debt and deficit.”
Warner discussed his co-leadership of a bipartisan group of Senators labeled the "Gang of Six," which is working to lay out a serious plan to reduce the federal deficit by $4 trillion in the next 10 years, ensure social security solvency, sharply reduce tax rates, and preserve the ability to invest in America’s priorities.
