Get out and Vote on November 6

The most often heard justification of why people choose not to vote in an election is, “My vote will note make a difference.”  With so much at stake in the 2013 elections, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce would like to encourage members to urge employees, co-workers, friends, and relatives to vote on November 6.

Voting is essential to the legislative process and it is one of the most important rights and responsibilities that we have as U.S. citizens.  Many of our predecessors over the centuries have fought for, marched for, and even died for the right to vote. Exercising your right to vote enables you to help elect public leaders who reflect your views and will speak for you in government. By choosing not to vote, you are relinquishing your constitutional right to have an impact on the course of America.

As a nation, our country has suffered economically. The Commonwealth has fallen from the number one top state for business to the third spot below Texas and Utah. Why has our Virginia fallen? Some claim because of “Infrastructure and Economy.” Virginia’s voters have the responsibility to vote for leadership who will help create local jobs and improve transportation.

The Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce serves as a leader and collaborator throughout the region, advocating for a variety of issues affecting our member businesses and the community. To that end, we encourage you to do your part and vote in the upcoming election.  As Dwight D. Eisenhower said, “The future of this republic is in the hands of the American voter.”
