On November 11, the Board of Directors of the Chamber’s Suffolk Division held its monthly meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center. More than 20 people attended the meeting, which featured guest speaker Mike Duman, who was elected earlier this month to Suffolk City Council. Duman told the group that he ran in order to bring a business perspective to the council, as well as to give back to the community. Duman noted that he would bring a “common sense” approach to governing and would focus his business expertise toward job creation and business recruitment and retention. Additionally, he pledged to work with members of council and the city administration to amend portions of the Unified Development Ordinance that may be too burdensome or costly to property or new business owners in the current economic climate.
