The Chesapeake Division of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce presented a forum for 4th District Congressional candidates on October 19th.  The event was held in the Chesapeake Conference Center and was televised by Channel 48.

Sheriff Mike Wade from Henrico County was the first and only candidate for the 4th District to speak.  The Sheriff provided details on his personal and professional background and indicated that he was running so that his children and grandchildren would have the same opportunities he did.

He is an advocate for a larger and stronger military.  Wade opposes bringing refugees to the United States referencing domestic needs for limited resources.  He also advocated reduced spending and referenced the over regulation of business.  Wade supports pushing funding down to localities for education and other core services.  He expressed concern over education dollars being used efficiently.  Wade supports the Atlantic Coast Pipeline and the use of natural gas. He does not believe that Congress should set the minimum wage but instead that wages should be driven by private industry.  Regarding the Affordable Care Act, Wade believes it should be modified and more technology used.  He discussed the difference between providing healthcare and providing health insurance.  Wade is an advocate for a simplified tax code like a flat tax to insure fairness.  A trend of diminishing ship repair work was referenced and Wade indicated that if elected he would work with others on the House Armed Services Committee to increase spending.  To diversify the economy,  Wade discussed an approach of listening to the business community.  He further favors cutting business taxes and believes that homeland security is paramount.

In closing, Wade referenced his many trips to Hampton Roads and his success in operating the Henrico jail and its multi-million dollar budget.

WCTV Chesapeake Channel 48 televised and recorded the forum. The forum will air again on Saturday, October 22nd at 5:30 p.m. Or watch it online here.
