Hampton Roads is invited to 'Catch the King' again

Last November, more than 600 citizen-scientists dispersed throughout Hampton Roads, smartphones in hand, in a concerted effort to track and document the watery reaches of the “king tide,” the highest astronomical tide of the year.

It was, as organizer Skip Stiles said, “believed to have been the world’s largest-ever king tide crowdsourcing event.“ Stiles is executive director of the nonprofit Wetlands Watch.

This year, organizers want to do it again.

The call is going out for volunteers for this year’s Catch the King 2018 event, which falls on Saturday, Oct. 27.
