Governor McAuliffe Announces New Port Lease

Governor McAuliffe Announces New Port Lease
Governor McAuliffe announced a new long-term lease on September 21st for the former APM Terminals Virginia Complex.

The facility was built by a division of A.P. Moeller-Maersk Group, a Danish shipping firm.  When the facility opened in 2007, it was recognized as the most advanced terminal in the United States.

The Governor’s announcement clears the way for a $320 million expansion of the Virginia International Gateway which will double its container handling capacity.

Earlier in 2015 the Commonwealth modernized and increased the capacity of the Norfolk International Terminals.  This work is in progress and is funded by a $350 million dollar state bond package.  Together there has been $670 million in new investment made in the port facilities.

This important investment will provide new capacity for Virginia’s port facilities at a time when there is historic and record setting growth.
