About American Engineering: From our base in Charlotte, North Carolina, and our office in Virginia Beach, our team has decades of experience working on projects throughout the Southeastern United States. The members of American Engineering are currently working on projects in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, Georgia, and Texas. Beyond our current projects, our team of experts has served in national roles with large engineering firms and has considerable experience throughout the United States.
Our roots trace back to 1974. For the past 40 years – whether it was as Engineering Services, Inc. in Virginia, Gannett Fleming in Charlotte, or directly as American Engineering – we have been providing superior service to our clients.
The leadership at American Engineering took a unique approach when creating the firm. They focused on clients’ needs – building the company from the customers’ perspective.
Brad Martin is a native of Norfolk, went away to western Virginia for college, and came right back to Virginia Beach to begin practicing as a consulting civil engineer. He has worked in the Tidewater offices of local and national engineering firms for the past 25 years. Brad opened Martin Engineering in Virginia Beach in 2007 and subsequently, in 2015, merged the firm into American Engineering to strengthen the firm’s Virginia Beach office.
Brad’s specialty is site design for commercial development projects, everything from small commercial centers to big-box retail operations. Signature projects are Obici Hospital in Suffolk, the Radius Apartments and Jefferson Marketplace in Newport News, and Grace Bible Church in Virginia Beach.
Brad volunteers with several local volunteer and charitable organizations including the Cape Henry Rotary Club and Virginia Beach Special Olympics. He lives in Virginia Beach with his wife, Tracey and his 14-year-old son, Henry.
